Toenail fungus is easy to spot, but difficult to treat. Successful over-the-counter treatments may be able to diminish or eliminate the visible symptoms, but nail fungus often comes back, and complete eradication is an ongoing battle. Unfortunately, most home remedies and over the counter medications result in little to no benefit.

How Does the Harmony XL Pro Laser Work?

This FDA-cleared laser treatment for toenail fungus is virtually painless. It can be used to treat a single nail or multiple affected areas for both toenails and fingernails.

If you only have one visibly infected nail, we strongly recommend treating the nails on either side to prevent cross contamination. The energy works beneath the nail plate therefore the surface of the skin and nail is unaffected. The treatment creates sub-dermal heating that destroys the fungus. A course of 4-6 treatments is required.

WHAT ARE FUNGAL NAIL INFECTIONS?

The name sounds grim I know, but fungal nail infections are nothing to worry about. Typically this type of infection occurs more often in the toes than the finger. Athlete’s foot can spread to the nails effecting such an infection. Encased every day in socks and shoes, our feet provide the ideal warm conditions for otherwise harmless fungi or yeasts to grow. Over time the nail starts to change colour and this can sometimes lead to discomfort and pain. Some people suffer in silence like this for years and years.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

Each session of this effective treatment for fungal nail infections typically takes around 20 – 30 minutes from start to finish, with the laser itself being used for only a couple of minutes. Most people need about 4-6 treatments (spread 2 – 3 weeks apart) before the infection is cleared completely. Some people describe the procedure as uncomfortable but very rarely painful. We can always pause and then resume the treatment once you feel more at ease. However, there is no downtime after the treatment and you will be able to return to work and everyday activity the same day.

IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?

Absolutely! This FDA-cleared laser treatment for toenail fungus is virtually painless. It can be used to treat a single nail or multiple affected areas for both toenails and fingernails. As a client, you will probably feel nothing during the short treatment other than a comfortable sense of warmth. The energy works beneath the nail plate therefore the surface of the skin and nail is unaffected. The treatment creates sub-dermal heating that destroys the fungus.

TREATMENT AFTERCARE

After treatment, we ask that you do not to wear tight footwear for the first 48 hours. You should also apply an anti-fungal cream to the affected area twice daily for 3 months. Also, use an anti-fungal powder in your shoes.

Results are usually visible from the very first treatment and increase throughout the course until the infection is completely gone. The healthy nail will start to regrow in the weeks and months after treatment and should eventually look just entirely ‘back to normal’.
